Liam Hemsworth has told friends that he is hoping for a reconciliation with ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus, according to reports.

The 20-year-old Australian actor, who met Cyrus while they were filming The Last Song, confirmed their split last week.

A friend of the couple told The Daily Telegraph: “Although the relationship is over now, it doesn’t mean it is over forever. There might be a chance of rekindling their romance in the future. They both are of the mindset that if it’s meant to be, it will be.

“Liam was into the relationship a lot more then she was. He liked being exclusive. He was serious about her and wanted to make it work.

“She still has strong feelings for Liam, but she still is very young and currently is career driven. She knows this is her time to shine career-wise and that love will come whenever she wants it. She was a lot busier than he was, and distance also played a role in the break-up.”

When poor interviewing by paparazzi combines with poor analysis from HollywoodLife, it’s sure to be a treat!

On Thursday the site posted a video clip of Miley Cyrus being peppered with questions as she makes her way through JFK airport in New York. The paparazzo asks the pop princess about her split with Liam Hemsworth and adds, “You look happy.”

Smiling, Cyrus replies, “What’s there not to be happy about? I’m breathing.”

If you watch the video, it’s apparent that Cyrus means she’s grateful to have the life she does, grateful to be in good health, etc. She’s alive and happy.

If anything, she’s downplaying the drama of her recent breakup and putting it into perspective.

HollywoodLife has little use for perspective.

According to the site, Cyrus “disses” Hemsworth.

“Miley Is Totally Over Liam!” shrieks the headline.

“Says Of Their Break-Up: ‘What’s There Not To Be Happy About?’”

Wait, what?

Um, no.

She didn’t say, “What’s there not to be happy about?” with regards to the break-up.

Cyrus was responding to the comment that she looked happy.

We know because we actually watched the video.

That is a totally butchered interpretation of what actually transpires. Rather than “moving on,” as HollywoodLife advises Hemsworth to do, the site does its best to gin up controversy where none exists.

In doing so, HollywoodLife reveals itself to be less mature than the teenagers it covers.

Although The Last Song couple announced their split just last week, a source tells HollywoodLife.com that the two still have strong feelings for each other!

Miley Cyrus is young and just wants to have fun right now – which is one of the reasons her relationship with Liam Hemsworth didn’t work. But don’t rule out a possible reunion for Ms. Hannah Montana and her The Last Song co-star — the two still care deeply about one another!

Despite the fact that Miley, 17, seems to be flirting with every man on the planet – from her LOL: Laughing Out Loud co-star Douglas Booth to Justin Bieber - Liam still yearns for his ex. “Liam was into the relationship a lot more then she was,” the insider confides. “He liked being exclusive. He was serious about her and wanted to make  it work.”

For the moment though, Miley is enjoying being young, hot and single. “She still has strong feelings for Liam, but she still is very young and currently is career driven. Adds the source, “Liam is holding out hope that he and Miley will get back together, but that’s not going to stop him from letting another relationship occur. They are both content with the situation.”

@disneylipstick I haven’t met Miley Cyrus, but I saw her album launch concert at House Of Blues and she totally rocked. No lip syncing, no pre-recorded tracks. She and the band played everything live and did some great punk covers of the Sex Pistols and the Runaways. She is uber-talented for sure. And her legs are SICK!
